How to Choose the Right Spike Lug Nut Covers for Your Semi Truck

Spike Lug Nut Covers — The #1 Chrome Accessory

Spike lug nut covers are the single most popular chrome accessory for semi trucks. They're affordable, easy to install, and instantly transform the look of your wheels. But with so many options, how do you choose the right ones?

Size Guide: 33mm vs. 1-1/2"

  • 33mm — The standard size for most modern semi trucks (2000+). If your truck has metric lug nuts, these are what you need.
  • 1-1/2" (38mm) — Found on older trucks and some heavy equipment. Measure your lug nuts before ordering.

Thread-On vs. Push-On

  • Thread-on: Screws directly onto the lug nut. More secure, won't vibrate loose. Best for daily drivers.
  • Push-on: Snaps over the lug nut. Easier to install/remove. Popular for show trucks where you change covers frequently.

Styles

  • Spike: The classic aggressive look. Available in various lengths from 2" to 4".
  • Pointed: Similar to spike but with a more refined point.
  • Dome: Rounded top for a cleaner, less aggressive appearance.
  • Bullet: Tapered like a bullet casing.

How Many Do You Need?

A typical semi truck with dual rear axles needs:

  • Steer axle: 10 lug nuts (5 per wheel × 2 wheels)
  • Drive axles: 40 lug nuts (10 per wheel × 4 wheels, for dual rear)
  • Total: 50-60 covers depending on configuration
